Thanks Gnarly. Yeah, some sites aren't that good but people are making an effort which is great. You're right that the klan site is primarily for communication and this keeps feuding to a low level (although I do love a good feud to keep the blood up!). I guess the pressure to keep finding interesting content for this blog is sometimes demotivating but I'll keep on trying.

Brad,
I am chaffed at being labeled better paddler than you and "exert more institutional influence". Not sure where we stand at paddling skills but I regard myself somewhere in the lower levels compared to some real good paddlers.
Not sure about the "influence" either but I will take it as compliment.
Setting up the Klan is probably a much more dynamic way to communicate amongst paddlers than traditional websites.
I love the concept of the Klan, there is a lot to learn from that.
While you are correct in saying that there are more websites around now than before some of them aren’t that good.
It takes a lot of effort to publish a decent one.
Yours has always had good content, well written and perfectly presented.
Maybe being in advertising gives you the edge.
I view the Klan more of a communication board than a place to express researched opinions and present in depth findings where a wider audience can benefit from.
I would not chuck in the sponge with your blog, it’s a different type of animal.

Brad
Well said; I agree with 99% of this, the other 1% we can discuss during our morning coffee break and "philosopy session" whilst we are next out paddling together.
Thanks again for taking the initiative to get the Klan started.

Hi Brad, that is a great new site you have created. It clearly serves a group with real community spirit. Like yours, our group paddles informaly though I am a member of the Scottish Canoe Association. Unlike yours, not all of us are fully computer literate yet, so we tend to communicate by SMS txt. I am afraid my blog has developed into an introverted personal paddling log but at the recent Perth (Scotland) Canoe Show I was gobsmaked by all the people who came up to say hello.

Good luck,

:o)

Good to read that you have not lost any of your haka skills over the years. It seems a mighty long time since you had Jhon Hitchmogh pinned up to the wall !!!

I actually liked the feel of the Assateague better than the Rockpool. The Rockpool's cockpit is roomy but narrower with aggressive thigh braces which I didn't like on my ex-weightlifter legs. The seat sits on a sliding plate as does the foot rest and this gives more adjustability than the Assateague. The backrest was a bit of a pest but no worse than the IR in the Impex. Construction of the GT is superb but the boat did not suit me at all. With more time to adjust it, I think I'd come to terms with it. The Assateague has better primary stability and as good secondary so apart from speed I can't see a huge advantage in the Rockpool. For large blokes it is definitely a boat to have on the short list as most of the other guys in the klan loved it.

Brad, you mention the Rockpool GT fitting you well but uncomfortable. What was uncomfortable, in your opinion?
Compared to the Assateague, how is the construction (layup and resin) and finish of the boat?

Hey guys,

I love the fact that our kayaking videos are sparking such diverse discussions :) If you thought our paddling was exciting before, just wait for the new video that's coming out!

Best regards to all paddlers :)
